Dr. Ezra Kwok brings an exceptional multidisciplinary scientific background to his role as a Strategic Advisor to Promerita Group where he often leads the assessment and vetting process for business ventures that incorporate highly technical or healthcare-related technologies. 

As an entrepreneur and practicing physician, he has founded several businesses that continue to operate successfully in health-related industries. In his role as Professor of Chemical & Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Dr. Kwok founded the graduate level Biomedical Engineering Program at the university where he also served as its inaugural Program Director from 2005 to 2010. Dr. Kwok is also a professional engineer and serves as a Board Examiner for the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia. Because of his training in both medicine and engineering, he is a consultant in medical device development and academic programs for other universities. Outside of his academic and business interests, Dr. Kwok co-founded a medical and surgical practice group in Vancouver where he continues to practice as a primary care physician on a part-time basis.

Dr. Kwok’s professional background is complemented by extensive academic training from several of Canada’s leading universities. He graduated with distinction with a degree in Chemical Engineering and completed his PhD in Computer Process Control from the University of Alberta; he holds a MD degree from McMaster University and completed his residency in Family Medicine. Some of Dr. Kwok’s extensive professional affiliations include member of the Faculty of Medicine, UBC, member and former chapter chair of the International Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), member of the Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society (CMBES), member of the Canadian Academy of Medical Acupuncture (CAMA), member of the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons, and member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC). In 2012, he was named the Outstanding Canadian Biomedical Engineer by CMBES.

Dr. Kwok’s current research interests include diabetic modeling and control, advanced process control, and osteoarthritic synovial fluid properties. He has published over 50 refereed scientific papers.

Outside of his professional pursuits and research interests, Dr. Kwok enjoys international travel with his wife and children. He also participates in overseas surgical mission work at least once a year.
