Riley leads Promerita’s real estate debt origination and syndication business where he is focused on originating creative and competitive funding options for Promerita’s clients and for our own equity sponsored projects and assets.  Riley focuses on the BC market but has experience across the country and has successfully underwritten more than $1.5B in real estate debt and equity across all real estate asset classes.  He has experience with a wide range of client and borrower types including private investors, developers, owner-occupiers, institutions, hospitality, REIT’s and foreign investors.  Most significantly, Riley’s considerable experience and credibility amongst the full range of debt and equity capital providers in the Canadian market, including banks, credit unions, conduit lenders, life insurance companies, pension funds, international lenders and private sources of capital is a strong complement to Promerita’s proprietary capital network.

In addition to serving as a Principal, Managing Director & Designated Individual for Promerita’s mortgage origination business, Riley serves as a capital markets specialist with a major Canadian commercial real estate brokerage and works closely with that firm’s many advisors. In this capacity, he facilitates cash flow based term loans, interim and construction loans, repositioning loans, unsold inventory loans as well as financing for specialized properties such as hotels, resorts, retirement homes as well as providing capital to restructure portfolios and distressed properties.

Riley’s education and industry affiliations complement his extensive real estate finance experience. He earned his first degree from the University of British Columbia, was educated at the Sauder School of Business in mortgage brokering and has securities training through the Canadian Securities Institute. He is a member of the Canadian Mortgage Brokers Association (CMBA), the Mortgage Brokers Institute of BC (MBIBC) and NAIOP (Commercial Real Estate Development Association)

In addition to his professional achievements, Riley has a love for sports and the outdoors. In his free time he enjoys playing hockey, golfing, snowboarding, hiking, and camping. Riley was born and raised in Vancouver and is married.
